The Rockford Aviators picked up a 4-3 victory against the Gateway Grizzlies Wednesday night at GCS Ballpark.

The loss against the Aviators was the Grizzlies fourth in their last five games against them.  The loss also moved the Grizzlies lead in the West Division to just one game.

Rockford (27-43) and Gateway (42-29) both scored two runs in the first inning.

Edgar Corcino and Matt Greener hit solo home runs to give the Aviators a short-lived 2-0 lead.

Chris McClendon drove in a run with a triple and Michael Pair picked up an RBI single to tie the game at 2-2 in the bottom of the first.

Brandon Newton brought in two runs with a triple in the fourth inning to extend the Aviators lead to 4-2.

Jose Flores answered in the bottom of the fourth with a solo home run, but that would be the end of the scoring for both teams.

Rockford’s bullpen pitched four scoreless innings to finish the game and complete the Aviators third straight one-run victory against the Grizzlies.

Grizzlies starting pitcher Edison Alvarez (0-1), making his team debut, allowed four runs on seven hits in four and two thirds innings.  Alvarez walked two batters and struck out one.

Gateway only collected five hits as a team with no player recording more than one.

The Grizzlies and Aviators continue their series Thursday night at GCS Ballpark.  It’s the Diamond Hunt for females 18+.  Right-hander Matt Sergey (1-1) gets the start for the Grizzlies.  First pitch is set for 7:05.
