Let me be honored to say, September baseball is FINALLY here! And may I also say – The boys are back and ready to fight in the pennant race. September is when things really start getting heated up. The Cardinals need to be ready to fight hard this year. Like I’ve said, teams around MLB are doing great this year, especially in the National League Central. But our boys are back in 1st place, and ready to stay there.
I went to the games this past Friday and Saturday, and really observed what we need to improve on if we want to win it all. The last two games that I went to, they did extremely well. Our ace Adam Wainwright has lost the past couple of his games. But last night (September 7th), he did very well. He kept his pace, with zero earned runs and sixty-eight strikes, he really shut down the Pirates. The offense has also been on top of it this series. Extra bases. Extra bases everywhere!
The one thing that I really love about September is the excitement and enthusiasm the Cardinals have. This is one key to a successful Postseason – a good attitude. A team that always looks at the negatives will not get far into the Playoffs. If they keep up the positive outlooks, and even dancing in the dugouts no matter what the situation is, then they will, in my opinion, get very far.
So far this season, I have seen good and bad comments about Mike Matheny. Some of us agree with his decisions, some of us don’t. Which is obviously okay. I mean come on, it’s baseball. But I really think we should just take a step back, and really take a good look at what he is trying to do. He was made our manager for a reason. I have said this before, and I’ll say it again. Mike took his team VERY far last year into the Playoffs. On his first year. Let’s just take some time, and let him figure out what he is going to do with his team this year. Mozeliak wouldn’t have made him manager if he knew he wasn’t going to make an attempt to take his team far. Take a deep breath and let him do his thing.
We also need to keep faith in our pitching rotation. No, Lance Lynn, or Jake Westbrook haven’t been doing so well. They need time to really find out what’s going on, and get back on track. But Cardinal Nation needs to have their back, instead of bashing on them. Yes – even before the game has even started. Let me be straight up with you guys, I’m sure if you were a pitcher, you’d want your fan base on your side, too. Hating on your own team’s pitchers won’t help. I know you’re probably thinking “Well what else is going to make them better?” My answer to you is, themselves. If they know that the fans are saying that he’s a terrible pitcher, his self esteem is going to sink. Let’s just take a minute to realize that these pitchers are OUR pitchers. Have some faith!!!
So let me get back to my point. This is where baseball gets extremely exciting. Let’s have a great month of baseball, keep looking for the positives, and win. Happy September baseball, everybody. Let’s make this a great Postseason!
Keep flying, Cardinal Nation.
