If the Missouri Comets thought last weekend’s route of the St. Louis Ambush meant that tonight’s game would be easy pickings, they thought wrong.  The Comets came back to the Family Arena tonight after coasting to a 28-7 win over the expansion Ambush on November 23. In tonight’s rematch, a scrappy Ambush team matched the Comets goal for goal and forced a sudden-death overtime period that saw the Comets claim a 12-10 victory.

With no scoring in the first period, the Comets bounced back with unanswered goals by Coady Andrews, Bryan Perez and Vahid Assadpour in the second stanza to lead 6-0 at the halftime break.  Leo Gibson increased Missouri’s lead to 8-0 with an unassisted goal less than a minute into the third quarter. Corey Adamson put the Ambush on the board at 2:24 of the third with an assist by Daniel Antoniuk and it proved to be a momentum changer. St. Louis would close the gap to 8-6 with two tallies by Odaine Sinclair. Byron Alvarez put the Comets back up by four at 9:42 of the third and Michael Roach answered for St. Louis with less than 30 second remaining to close out the period with the Comets on top, 10-8.

The Ambush drew even at 3:52 of the fourth quarter on Antoniuk’s fourth goal of the season. It would be the lone tally of the period and send the contest into overtime knotted at 10. Stefan St. Louis snuck the game winning shot passed Ambush goalkeeper Jeff Richey at 2:41 of overtime to seal the 12-10 victory for the Comets.  Missouri goalkeeper Danny Waltman made 9 saves on 14 attempts while the Comets kept Ambush goalkeeper Jeff Richey busy facing 22 shots on goal and saving 17.

The Ambush embark on four straight road games with stops in Syracuse, Rochester, Milwaukee and a visit to Independence to once again tangle with the Comets before returning home to the friendly turf of the Family Arena to host the Syracuse Silver Knights on December 29.
