Saint Louis junior RHP James Norwood has been drafted by the Chicago Cubs with the 199th pick (sixth round) of the 2014 MLB First Year Player Draft. It is the second-highest draft selection for a Billiken in the June MLB Draft (Ken Ossola, 172nd pick by New York Mets in 1969 draft).

Norwood was 8-2 as a junior for the Bills, posting a 2.68 ERA with 64 strikeouts and 28 walks. He earned first team All-Atlantic 10 accolades for his efforts. Norwood’s eight victories is the second-highest single season win total in SLU history.

Norwood finished his junior season with a 11-7 record and a 2.84 ERA. He is one of only two Billikens with a sub-3.00 career ERA (Tony Tocco, 1.62 ERA in 1965-67).

With the Norwood selection, Saint Louis has had a player drafted in back-to-back years. Grant Nelson was drafted by the Arizona Diamondbacks in the 2013 First Year Player Draft.
