Home Baseball Marco Gonzales Makes Debut

Marco Gonzales Makes Debut

by

The Cardinals recently purchased LHP Marco Gonzales, calling him up to the big leagues from AA Springfield. On Thursday, he made his major league debut against the Colorado Rockies.

In AA, Gonzales started off with a pretty impressive season. Gonzales started 2014 with a 2.33 ERA and a 3-2 record. Mixed in with that 2.33 ERA, Gonzales pitched a total of 38.2 innings in the 2014 AA season in Springfield.

Marco Gonzales pitched a pretty impressive debut today against the Rockies…

1st inning

Gonzales started the game off right. The first batter he faced grounded-out, recording his first major league out. For the next two outs, he struck out Drew Stubbs and power-hitter Troy Tulowitzki. Gonzales ended the first inning going three up and three down.

2nd inning

In the second inning, Gonzales continues to impress- he records the next three outs with infield ground-outs. Moving into the third inning, Gonzales records another three up and three down inning.

3rd inning

At the top of the third inning, Gonzales comes up to bat. After two innings of dominat pitching, Gonzales shoots a double to the outfield for his first major league at bat. Eventually, he comes around to score his first run also. At the bottom of the third inning, Gonzales continues to dominate with his pitching. Gonzales recorded the first out with a pop-up. Gonzales walked the second batter, recording his first major-league walked batter. Not letting his first walk get to him, Gonzales gets yet another strikeout and gets a ground-out. No hits have yet been allowed at this point of the game.

4th inning

The first batter Gonzales faces in the fourth inning, Drew Stubbs, hits a home run off of the first pitch off the inning. Next batter fouls out to Yadier Molina, recording the first out. Things start going slightly downhill for Gonzales and the Cardinals. Justin Morneau singles to get a Rockies rally going. Next, Wilin Rosario doubles, then Corey Dickerson follows up with a double off a breaking ball pitch, scoring Morneau and Rosario. Gonzales records his second walked batter, Josh Rutledge. Afterwards, DJ LeMahieu singles, scoring Dickerson. Yohan Haude grounds out to Peralta recording the second out- also scoring Rutledge. Charlie Blackmon grounds out to Carpenter recording the third out. No activity was currently going on in the Cardinals bullpen.

5th inning

Drew Stubbs grounded out to Carpenter, recording the first out of the fifth inning. Troy Tulowitzki singled to Craig, playing in right field for today’s game. Justin Morneau singled softly to Bourjos in center field. Wilin Rosario flies out to Craig, recording the second out. Recording the third out is Corey Dickerson, lining out to Carpenter at third base. Still no bullpen activity.

6th inning

At the top of the sixth inning, the Cardinals bullpen becomes active. RHP Seth Maness will be warming up to come into the bottom of the sixth to pitch.

Marco Gonzales ended the day with three strikeouts, 5 ER, 7 hits, and 5.0 innings pitched.

Cardinals come through, winning 9-6. Cardinals also take 2 games of this 3 game series.

Even though Gonzales had a shaky inning in the fourth, he still had quite a dominant game. Gonzales showed up to be the pitching minor league prospect he has been said to be. It is comforting to know that he will be around for our time of pitching need.

Congratulations to Marco Gonzales for his first Major League debut. Welcome to Cardinal Nation, Marco!

It looks like the Cardinals are figuring things out with all of our pitchers placed on the DL. We will be just fine, Cardinal fans!

Keep flying, Cardinal Nation.

Still great to see young pitching that’s got great potential in thier careers. I don’t know what your personal opinion is of the David Price rumors but with the surplus in the outfield that we have, it be great to land another elite pitcher
