The Milwaukee Wave spoiled the St. Louis Ambush home opener by handing the home team a 8-4 loss Saturday night at the Family Arena. 6,679 fans were on hand to kick off the 2014-15 season.

As he did last season, Corey Adamson scored the team’s first goal at the Family Arena. Adamson’s tally came at 3:33 of the first quarter, assisted by Odaine Sinclair.  Milwaukee answered 30 seconds laster when Luan Sales Oliveira scored on a restart. The Ambush took back the lead at 11:47 when Stefan St. Louis passed from the corner to Blake Ordell, who was positioned in front of the goal.  Ordell took the pass and beat Wave goalkeeper Nick Vorberg for the goal. The opening period ended with the Ambush on top, 2-1.

Milwaukee drew even at 4:09 of the second quarter when a shot by Bato Radoncic rebounded off the board and was picked up by Ian Bennett, who shot it past Ambush goalkeeper Greg Crook for the goal.  The Wave took a 3-2 lead at 13:32 when Tony Walls passed to Marcio Leite, who caught Crook out of the goal and tapped the shot into the net. With no further scoring, Milwaukee enjoyed a 3-2 advantage at halftime.

The Ambush wasted no time tying the game in the second half when Blake Ordell notched his second goal of the game off a pass from Emanuel Forbes at 1:52.  Milwaukee took the lead back a minute later when Bennett scored his second of the contest. The Wave increased their lead to 5-3 when Pablo Da Silva scored at 3:34, assisted by Leite.  Quiroz was penalized for tripping, giving the Ambush a penalty shootout opportunity, which Stefan St. Louis completed to shrink the Wave lead to one (5-4) at 10:40.

Milwaukee gained a shootout opportunity when Kory Dowell was called for holding at 14:01 and Oliveira made good on the shootout to close out the third quarter with the Wave holding a 6-4 advantage.

The final stanza was all Milwaukee as Tenzin Rampa scored at 3:03 and Marcelo Fontana scored at 9:59 to seal the 8-4 victory for the visitors.

Nick Vorberg got the win in goal for the Wave, making nine saves on 13 opportunities. Greg Crook took the loss for the Ambush, making 17 saves on 24 save opportunities.

The Ambush are back in action when the Chicago Mustangs come to town for the first time ever next Saturday, November 15 at 7:35 p.m.
