Wrestling icon Sting makes WWE debut at Survivor Series!

by

Professional wrestling icon Sting debuting in WWE is something millions of wrestling fans have dreamed of seeing happen for decades.

And now, in 2014, it’s finally happened.

On Sunday, November 23rd, WWE held their 28th annual Survivor Series PPV, and the event was held in St. Louis, Missouri, at the Scottrade Center.

The main event was a five on five traditional Survivor Series elimination match, which pitted “Team Authority” captained by Seth Rollins, against “Team Cena” captained by John Cena. It was a back and forth battle between both teams, with Cena’s team getting the upper hand early on, but eventually, Team Cena was down to just one member: Dolph Ziggler. He had to face off against three members of Team Authority. And just when it seemed like he was about to win the match, Triple H interfered and a brawl took place.

After some time passed, Sting’s theme music hit. And the St. Louis crowd went absolutely insane.

The announcers were stunned, Triple H was in disbelief, and more importantly, the atmosphere at the Scottrade Center was pure electric.

Sting entered the ring, stood face to face with Triple H. They are considered to be two of the most iconic and notable wrestlers of all time. Sting then put him in his signature move, the Scorpion Death Drop, and laid out Triple H. He then placed Ziggler’s arm over Rollins’ body, both of whom were out cold, and Ziggler won the match for Team Cena, being the only wrestler not eliminated in the match-up.

Since Survivor Series, people still are in utter amazement over Sting’s debut.

His wrestling career has spanned nearly 30 years. Born as Steve Borden, Borden was a wrestler with the National Wrestling Alliance/World Championship Wrestling from 1987-2001, and in Total Non-Stop Action Wrestling from 2003-2014. Pro Wrestling Illustrated named him #1 out of 500 wrestlers in their 1992 “top singles wrestlers” list.

Borden is a multiple time WCW and TNA World Heavyweight champion, and has many more accolades earned in his prestigious career.

In April 2014, Borden and WWE began contractual negotiations. Anticipation rose as to when the 55-year old veteran would make his debut.

While it was known prior to Survivor Series that he was going to appear at the event, no one could have predicted the magnitude of his debut, especially in regards to the main event on Sunday.

St. Louis has held dozens of professional wrestling events over the past 30 years, since the St. Louis Wrestling Club era ended. Many PPV’s that have been held in St. Louis have been known for having historic moments occur.

Now, the Gateway City can add another historic wrestling moment to the history books.

It remains to be seen how Sting being in WWE will work out, and how many matches the icon has in him. But just his presence is enough for many wrestling fans to get excited…
