NFL Week 12-Five Take Aways

  1. There is no denying that the Rams loss was a tough one to swallow. It is absolutely heartbreaking to be that close to stealing a tough hard fought win on the road and literally throwing it away. It is obvious to second guess an intercepted pass but Mason was running the ball well, why not give him a shot? And an empty back field at that? Just a bad play call to not even make them think it was going to be a run. Sure there were blown calls but all and all, a good team must overcome the bad calls. I guess the Rams are just not a good team.
  2. I hate to use the term Big win because no win is more important than the next (playoffs not withstanding) but the Seahawks got a big decisive win over the division leading Cardinals which brings them within two games. Match that with the fact the Cardinals still have to play the Seahawks and 49ers one more time and this Division just became a lot more interesting. I am leaning towards the 49ers being able to take it the last week of the season but there is still a lot of season left.
  3. There are seven teams fighting for two wild card spots in the AFC. Five teams are tied at 7-4 (Ravens, Steelers, Browns, Chiefs, Chargers) while the Dolphins and Bills are at 6-5. I am of the mind that the playoffs as of now are perfect. No need to expand, however. If we keep having so many teams vying for a spot to play in January, I may rethink my stance.
  4. Which of course forces us to talk about the NFC South. I have heard people clamor for change in the way teams make playoffs so that subpar teams with losing records. I have to disagree. A part of me enjoys the idea of a team with a losing record going to the Super Bowl. As a writer, the stories of that are endless. I think if you start eliminating division champions because of their record you might start a precedent. Are 8-8 teams allowed? Do we then turn this into college rules where a team must have X about of wins before they can play in the playoffs? My point is where do we draw the line? If you are worried about a team not making the playoffs in favor of the team of winning the division, my solution to you is play better football and don’t be the team that is sitting at home.
  5. I think it is safe to say that only one team is hot right now. The Patriots have won seven straight. The next closes streak is the Packers who have won three. I find that fascinating because this is a sport that lives and dies on streaks. It is especially ironic that the two hottest teams are playing each other Sunday. I think this is the most anticipated regular season game outside of the annual Brady/Manning game.
