SAUGET, IL – The Grizzlies have re-signed RHP Ja’Vaun West for the 2015 season. West returns for his fourth season in a Gateway uniform after being named a Frontier League All-Star last season.

West went 7-3 and posted a 3.62 ERA in 16 games started for the Grizzlies in 2014. The Atlanta, Mo. native struck out a career-high 116 batters in 102 innings of work, while pitching to a career-best 1.17 WHIP.

“Ja’Vaun is already something special, but he has the chance to do great things this year,” said Grizzlies’ manager Phil Warren, who first signed West during 2012. “It’s pretty cool to think about how well he could pitch this season as long as he stays healthy,” he said.

In his rookie season, West recorded 50 strikeouts in only three starts and 17 appearances out of the bullpen. During the Grizzlies’ 2013 season, the 25-year-old finished with a career-low 3.02 ERA. He completed his college baseball career at the University of Indianapolis and led the program to its second ever NCAA D-II Championship appearance.

“I have a gut feeling that this season is going to be a special one,” West said. “I’m really looking forward to the 2015 season and all the opportunities it brings.”
