Miners Add Lopez To Pitching Staff

by Press Release
The Southern Illinois Miners announce that they have signed right-handed pitcher Adam Lopez for the 2015 season.

Lopez comes to the Miners after three seasons in the Chicago White Sox organization. Originally selected in the 21st round of the 2012 Major League Baseball First-Year Player draft out of Viginia Military Institute, he was named the #11 prospect in the system by MLB.com.

In 52 games as a professional, Lopez compiled a tremendous 2.59 ERA. He has also struck out 166 hitters in only 125 1/3 innings, allowing just 105 hits, 50 total walks and three overall home runs. The 6’5” hurler’s best season came in 2013 with Single-A Kannapolis in the Midwest League – in 32 games with seven starts and 13 games finished that year, he struck out 129 over 99 1/3 innings pitched while allowing only 84 hits and walking just 35.

“Adam is a great addition to our staff,” Miners manager Mike Pinto said. “Not only is he a command pitcher, but he can also create swings and misses. He was a top prospect in the White Sox organization, and comes from a great college program that not only builds great athletes, but great people as well. We believe he can be an impact arm with us.”
