ST. CHARLES, Mo. — Are you ready for a blowout? If you are going to the final regular season game hoping for the St. Louis Attack to get a shot at the X-Bowl again this year, you need to root for the Attack to get off the line quickly, drop an anvil on the gas pedal and for Head Coach Pat Pimmel not to take it off until time expires.

Standings

Last year by this time, the Attack had long since clinched home-field advantage. This year, St. Louis’s X-League professional indoor football team is caught in a quagmire in the middle of the standings. At the end of the regular season (that although it ends for the Attack Saturday night,  will not officially be over until June 8), the tiebreaker scenarios are infinite. With a win on Saturday, the Attack could be in anything from a seven-team tie for first place to a six-team tie for second or, in the least complicated scenario, a three-way tie for the third and final playoff spot. Points and point differential will almost definitely play a role in determining who is going to the playoffs with this many teams involved.

I will delve farther into the scenarios after Saturday’s games because all of this moot if St. Louis does not do their part with a win by a large margin.

The Attack could not ask for a better matchup to do what needs to be done. The Fury are still looking for their first win, have the worst point differential and scoring offense, and the second worst scoring defense. The Fury’s six losses include a 110-1 defeat to the Bloomington Edge in April. In their only previous meeting, the Attack beat the Fury 34-16 in the season opener in Corpus Christi.

St. Louis is led once again in the passing game by quarterback Mike McMullen. Last year’s X-League Offensive Player of the year has thrown for 941 yards and 13 touchdowns with 4 interceptions this season. He’s also ran for  for three more touchdowns. Chris Headd is the team’s leading receiver in receptions (29), yards (328) and touchdowns (5).

Deandre Jackson, last year’s X-Dash Player of the Year, has caught 4 touchdowns and ran a kick back for another and is yet to lose an X-Dash in almost two full seasons.

On the ground, the one-two punch of Daryl Grady  and Keenan Miller proved to be effective once again. Grady has 5 touchdowns and 143 yards on 44 carries, while Miller has 4 touchdowns on just 15 carries.

For what it’s worth, St. Louis is fourth in the X-League Power Rankings. Corpus Christi is 10th.
