The Washington Nationals selected Grizzlies’ infielder Clayton Brandt in the 19th round of the 2015 MLB Draft on Wednesday.

“It’s been a goal of mine to get drafted since I was little,” said Brandt, who signed with the Grizzlies on May 27 after finishing a standout career at MidAmerica Nazarene University. “It’s been a huge blessing to be a part of the Grizzlies’ organization,” he said.

The speedy infielder was recently named a 2015 First-Team NAIA All-American after hitting .417 as a senior with 7 homers, 43 RBI’s and 41 stolen bases in 45 attempts.

“Every one of the guys at Gateway has encouraged me and taken me under their wings,” Brandt said. “The playing time I’ve received with the Grizzlies has given me a taste of what the next couple of months will be like.”

The Stewardson, Ill. native hit .500 (5-10) with one double and two runs batted-in during five games with Gateway. He was the 584th overall selection in the Draft.
