STLFC Roadtrip Begins with Draw at Wilmington

by

Saint Louis FC created several quality scoring chances but was unable to find the back of the net in a 0-0 draw against Wilmington Hammerheads FC on Wednesday night at Legion Stadium.

With the draw, STL FC moves to 3-5-6 (15 pts.) while Wilmington goes to 2-8-6 (12 pts.).

Saint Louis FC is winless in its last nine league games and has been kept off the scoresheet in three of its last four matches overall.

STL FC had a number of chances to make the breakthrough against the Hammerheads on Wednesday night but couldn’t make them count.  The visitors edged Wilmington in shots 12-11.

Jermie Lynch had the best chance of the game for Saint Louis, crashing a shot off the crossbar just before the referee whistled for halftime.  The Jamaican rang the bar again in second half stoppage time but had been called for a foul before getting his shot off.

Wilmington started the second half brightly, but STL FC grew into the half and Bryan Gaul had a pair of scoring opportunities go begging.  On both occassions, Lynch played him a ball at the top of the penalty area but Gaul sent his first shot high and had his second attempt saved by Wilmington goalkeeper Andre Rawls.

Goalkeeper Alec Kann and the STL FC backline stood tall throughout the match, as Wilmington created some good pressure and a number of half chances but never really troubled the visitors.  Kann was credited with five saves in the match.

Saint Louis FC will wrap up its two-game roadtrip on Saturday when it faces Charlotte Indepedence at Ramblewood Stadium.  Kickoff is scheduled for 6:00 PM CT.
