by St. Louis Ambush

With the start of their regular season just six weeks away, the St. Louis Ambush continue to make roster moves designed to strengthen the team. Today, General Manager Andrew Haines announced the signing of veteran goalkeeper Marcelo Moreira and rookie forward/midfielder Ian Garrett.

Moreira, 37, comes to the Ambush with two seasons of professional indoor experience and 15 years playing outdoor soccer in his native Brazil. His 2014-15 season was hampered by injuries, but he appeared in eight games and registered a 5.44 goals against average and a .646 save percentage for the Rochester Lancers. Moreira appeared in three games for the Syracuse Silver Knights in 2013-14, compiling a 5.67 goals against average and a .660 save percentage. During his 15 years in Brazil, his experience includes stints with Palmeiras, América, Rio Branco, Náutico, Londrina, Votoraty, Arapongas and over 100 games with Juventas. Moreira also played in the Jewish Olympic Games in 2013 for the Jewish-Brazilian National Team.

Nineteen-year-old Ian Garrett was born in Kalamazoo, Michigan. He started playing soccer at age four in Portage, Michigan. He played high school soccer for the IMG Academy in Florida. During 2014 and 2015, he played for the MLS Chicago Fire U18 Academy team that won the US Development Academy National Championship. Garrett has chosen to forego college and pursue a professional soccer career. Garrett came to Ambush open tryouts this summer, then turned in a stellar performance in Saturday night’s pre-season battle against the Cedar Rapids Rampage, notching four goals and two assists in the 12-7 Ambush win.

The Ambush will travel to Cedar Rapids, Iowa for another pre-season duel against the Rampage on Friday, October 30. The 2015-16 regular season begins Saturday, November 14 when the Ambush host the Chicago Mustangs at 4:35 p.m. at the Family Arena.

Season tickets are now on sale and start at just $100. Single-game tickets will go on sale later this month. Call the Ambush office at 636-477-6363 for more information.
