After falling to the New York Islanders on Saturday, the Blues got back on track with their first shutout of the season, defeating the Tampa Bay Lightning 2-0.
Troy Brouwer and Scott Gomez each tallied goals as the lone goal scorers on the night.
Meanwhile on the other end, Jake Allen stopped all 26 shots faced en route to the shut out. St. Louis has now won six out of the past seven meetings with Tampa Bay including the last four.
With the win, the Blues improve to 6-2-1 with 13 points putting them in a three-way tie for the Central Division lead with the Nashville Predators and Minnesota Wild.
Rookie Colton Parayko stayed hot after receiving a pass from Brouwer before firing a shot on net. Gomez was there in front to tip the puck past Ben Bishop for his first goal as a member of the Blues. The goal put St. Louis out in front 1-0 with 4:01 left in the first period.
Tampa Bay’s best chance of the night came from the tape of Alex Killorn who rang a shot off the post with 11 seconds remaining in the first 20 minutes of play.
After a scoreless second period and third, Brouwer sealed the game with an empty net goal in the final minute. Brouwer now has eight points in his first season with St. Louis.
The Blues will hit the ice next against the struggling Anaheim Ducks Thursday, Oct. 29. Puck drop from the Scottrade Center is set for 7 p.m.
