After an impressive pair of wins against the Anaheim Ducks and Tampa Bay Lightning, the Blues won their third game in a row with a 3-2 overtime winner against the Minnesota Wild.

After being held scoreless through 10 games captain David Backes netted his first two goals of the season to propel St. Louis. Meanwhile, Jake Allen turned aside 29 of the 31 shots faced to earn the win.

With the victory, St. Louis improves to 8-2-1 and sits second in the Central Division with 17 points.

Backes wasted little time getting on the scoreboard in the first period.

Right off the face off, Backes ripped a shot home to make it 1-0 just 2:47 into the first. Alex Pietrangelo and Jay Bouwmeester also tallied assists on the goal.

But the Blues weren’t done in the first period.

Alexander Steen did it all on his own after intercepting a pass from Mikko Koivu and scoring past Devan Dubnyk to make it 2-0 in the first period.

St. Louis dominated the opening 10 minutes of play, but the next 10 minutes were all Minnesota.

Jason Zucker took the feed from Ryan Suter and scored his third of the season to bring the deficit to one with 4:46 remaining in the second period.

Then, Erik Haula scored his first of the season to knot the game at two after the first 20 minutes of play.

The game remained scoreless for the next two periods thanks to terrific goaltending at both ends including a big penalty kill by the Blues on a two-man advantage for the Wild for 1:02.

In overtime, Ty Rattie set up Backes in the high slot who fired a shot past Dubnyk to seal the game. In just this game, Backes doubled his point total on the season.

Next up for the Blues as they look to continue their winning streak is the Los Angeles Kings Tuesday, Nov. 3. Puck drop from the Scottrade Center is at 7 p.m.
