Both teams took 10 shots in the first. The Jets, however, beat Jake Allen with their first. Tyler Myers took a slap shot from the point, and although he didn’t get a lot on it, Mark Sheifele tipped it past the tender. Sheifele’s 12th goal of the season gave the Jets an early 1-0 lead.
But the Blues struck back early in the second period.
Sixteen seconds in, David Backes entered the zone and dished the puck over to Troy Brouwer. Brouwer looked to pass, but—instead—ripped a shot past Connor Hellebuyck to tie the game.
Then the Blues stopped playing (reoccurring theme).
Blake Wheeler stripped Petteri Lindbohm after missing his breakaway shot. But he found Chris Thorburn drifting in, and Thorburn beat Allen with his fifth of the season.
Mathieu Perreault got the assist on Drew Stafford’s goal to give the Jets a 3-1 lead.
Before intermission, Alexander Steen put some life back into the Blues bench with a clapper. Thanks to Kevin Shattenkirk’s pretty tee-up, the Blues cut their deficit to one goal heading into the third.
Then Tarasenko happened.
Just 0:51 seconds into the third period, Vladimir Tarsenko finished a cross ice pass from Kevin Shattenkirk to tie it; three-a-piece.
Although the Blues only had four shots in the third, they capitalized on two of them. Tarasenko and Paul Stastny flew into the Jets zone. Vlad sauced it over two diving Jets, and Stastny banked it in off the post.
The Blues came back to beat the Jets 4-3.
