Offseason over for the Cardinals?

Is the offseason over for the Cardinals? Most Cardinal fans are wondering if they are going to get another bat, or just do something. But, do they need to? Yes, everyone would love to see their favorite team add a big bat to the lineup, but I don’t think it is really a necessity for the Cardinals! No, the Cardinals do not have the best offense in the world, but when your pitching is terrific, do you really need it?

Lets take a look at some of the bigger moves the Cardinals have made this offseason.

11/30/15 – St.Louis Cardinals signed C Brayan Pena.

12/02/15 – St.Louis Cardinals traded C Tony Cruz to Kansas City Royals for SS Jose Martinez.

12/08/15 – St.Louis Cardinals traded OF Jon Jay to San Diego Padres for Jedd Gyorko.

12/10/15 – St.Louis Cardinals re-signed RP Jonathan Broxton.

12/22/15 – St.Louis Cardinals signed SP Mike Leake.

1/11/16 – St.Louis Cardinals signed RP Seung-Hwan Oh.

In the mix of all of those moves, the Cardinals lost some key players, like Heyward and Lackey, but they also got rid of some players that were just taking up a roster spot, like Bourjos and Kozma. Reynolds and Cishek were also players that the Cardinals watched leave for another team, but I do not really consider those players “big losses”.

If you look at it closely you get Grichuk and Piscotty for Jay and Heyward! As well as Pena for Cruz, Gyorko and Garcia for Kozma, Moss for Reynolds, Pham for Bourjos, Wainwright and Leake for Lynn and Lackey, and Oh for Cishek! I am not sure about everyone else, but to me we upgraded at many positions in very good ways!

I am not saying that the Cardinals will not do anything else this offseason, but it really isn’t a huge necessity for the Cardinals to add anyone. Yes, it would be nice, but it isn’t the end of the world if they don’t.

Let me know if you think the Cardinals will add another bat, or if you think they will stay put.
