After winning five consecutive games, the Blues failed to keep their winning-streak last night as they lost 6-3. San Jose’s Joe Thorton registered four points in the Sharks’ road win.
The Sharks entered St. Louis after losing 5-2 to the Hurricanes. This win was a good rebound, giving them 69 points (3rd in the Pacific). The Blues came home with 15 points in their last 8 games (16 possible). That’s pretty crazy. They now have 79 points (3rd in Central, 4th overall).
About five minutes into the game, Tomas Hertl of the Sharks found the puck behind the net. He then swung around to the front and stuffed it past Brian Elliott to claim a 1-0 lead for his team. (Joe Thorton gave him the assist)
Ryan Reaves was tossed from the game after laying a very hard hit on a Sharks player.
Five minutes later, Tomas Hertl grabbed his second goal. This time it was on the power play. His 14th of the season gave the Sharks a 2-0 jumpstart.
Logan Couture poked Brian Elliott after he made an initial save. Somehow, the puck found its way under Elliott’s pads and snuck into the net to extend the Sharks’ lead to 3-0 .(Joe Thorton gave him the assist). Elliott twisted around in an awkward manner on the goal, and left the game due to the injury. Jake Allen was forced to hop in net.
With less than three minutes left in the first (eventful) period, David Backes knocked in his 15th goal of the season to cut the lead to 3-1.
About halfway through the second period, Vladimir Tarasenko unloaded a whistling shot on the power play. The shot beat Sharks’ Martin Jones and narrowed the their lead to 3-2.
Exactly 20 seconds later, Logan Couture bumped in his second goal of the night to give the Sharks their two-goal lead back.
Joe Thorton stripped the puck from Joel Edmundson in the third period. He beat Allen with a backhanded shot to make it 5-3.
Up next… Jay Bouwmeester. Yeah, Jay Bouwmeester. His shot beat Jones as Tarasenko grabbed his 2nd assist of the game (3rd of the game).
Then, Joe Thorton put the icing on the cake as he blindly flung the puck into an empty Blues net with less than two minutes left in the game. The San Jose Sharks beat the Blues 6-3.
The Blues will host the Rangers on Thursday, 7:00 p.m.
