Steen, Blues win fifth consecutive

With Alexander Steen back in the lineup, the St. Louis Blues extended their winning streak to five games and head into April with an impressive record.

In the month of March, the Blues won ten games and only lost two. Their record is now 46-22-9 (same as Dallas), and they have 101 points. This is the third year in-a-row the Blues gone into triple-digit points.

The closest teams to the St. Louis Blues right now are the New York Rangers, the L.A. Kings, and the Chicago Blackhawks—all with 95 points. Washington, of course, is dominating the league with 113 points.

Last night’s game against the Colorado Avalanche was very important because it tested the Blues’ consistency. After recording four consecutive shutouts, the Blues showed it wasn’t just a fluke by outplaying a very desperate team, who is fighting for a playoff spot (it’s not looking good, Avs fans).

The Blues came out hot last night

Alexander Steen ripped a slapshot from the point about 2 minutes into the first. On its way to the net, David Backes deflected it into the goal for his 20th of the season.

Although St. Louis outshot Colorado 11 to 5 in the first, Mikhail Grigorenko tied the game before heading into the second.  Tyson Barrie set up the goal with a sweet toe-drag move before dishing it to Grigorenko.

Paul Stastny showed off his saucing skills when he set up Troy Brouwer in the second period. Stastny slowed the play down before nonchalantly feeding Brouwer the tap-in pass. With Brouwer’s 16th, the Blues regained the lead.

Up next was Vladimir Tarasenko. This goal left our jaws dropped. And they stay dropped for a while. He coasted into the offensive zone and unloaded his deadly wrist shot to give the Blues a 3-1 lead.

Although the Blues didn’t score again, they came of the game out on top. After three periods, they outshot the Avalanche 27 to 21.

The next game will be played Friday when the Blues host the Bruins, 7:30 p.m.
