Wrestlemania 32 Preview: Part Six

by

Some of the most famous and amazing matches in professional wrestling history have been ladder matches. From the death-defying moves, to the aerial assaults, ladder matches transcend the beliefs many fans in the world of wrestling have.

And at Wrestlemania 32 this Sunday, another ladder match will take place… this one for the WWE Intercontinental Championship.

Since Pat Patterson first won the title in 1979, the Intercontinental Championship has been considered as a “stepping stone” to the top prize in the company, which is the WWE World Heavyweight Championship. That isn’t always the case, but it still is a top title to the point where it has been contested in the main event at multiple Wrestlemania events.

Currently, the Intercontinental Championship belongs to Kevin Owens, who competed in a tough Fatal-Five Way match on WWE Monday Night RAW to win the match (and the title), back on February 15th, 2016. But now, Owens is going to have one of his toughest title defenses yet, when he will have to defend his title against not one, not two, not even five, but SIX other wrestlers in a seven-man ladder match at Wrestlemania.

The other wrestlers are as follows: Stardust, Sin Cara, Sami Zayn, Dolph Ziggler, Zack Ryder, and The Miz,

Originally, it was going to be a triple threat match, until a couple weeks ago on RAW, Stardust, Ryder, Ziggler, and Sin Cara were added to the match, creating a seven-man ladder match that does have the potential to be a show-stealing match.

In a ladder match, the first person to climb up a ladder and reach the title belt hanging above wins the match. While anyone has the chance to win the match, Zayn, Ziggler, The Miz, and Owens himself stand out among the group as the favorites to win the match, as their past success within WWE and more importantly, their overall skills within the squared circle.

But of course, it’s anyone’s title for the taken. Owens may very well leave Wrestlemania with his championship still on his shoulders. However, we could also have a new Intercontinental Champion at the biggest event of the year…
