(KALAMAZOO, MI) The St. Chux Derby Chix, currently ranked #56 internationally by the Women’s Flat Track Derby Association (WFTDA), traveled this past weekend to the K-Town Shakedown invitational held at Wings Convention Center.

In the three-day, flat-track derby event that featured 21 WFTDA-sanctioned games with 13 primary travel squads, the St. Charles County-based rollers battled mightily but suffered three setbacks.

In its Friday game against hard-charging #81 Killamazoo, the hostesses of the weekend, St. Chux found itself trailing 134-31 at intermission. The Derby Darlins maintained pressure in the second period and dropped SCDC for a 323-94 win.

The next day against #59 Brewcity, the Pack In Black refocused and performed in a first-period donnybrook with the team from Milwaukee. With multiple lead changes throughout the first thirty minutes, St. Chux held a 78-77 lead at intermission but Brewcity posted a strong second-period effort and snatched a 220-161 victory.

In its final game against #63 Grand Raggidy, SCDC tussled early but trailed 143-87 at halftime. Scoring picked up considerably in the second period for St. Chux, who outscored its opposition 117-77, but the differential was too much to upend and Grand Raggidy squeaked by with a 220-204 victory.

Although SCDC’s K-Town Smackdown 0-3 finish was not what was coveted in the win/loss column, the tight differential against comparably ranked leagues might arguably keep St. Chux (1-5) near the bubble of a potential WFTDA Division 2 playoff berth. The governing bodies’ next set of calculated rankings will be released in mere days and St. Chux looks to stay within the mixture.

St. Chux hosts its next local event at Matteson Square Gardens in St. Peters this Saturday. For tickets to the 6 p.m. doubleheader that features both Evansville, Indiana-based Demolition City as well as Metro-East Illinoisans Confluence Crush, go to THIS LINK.
