The stage is set for the Western Conference Finals

by

After defeating the Nashville Predators 5-0 on Thursday night, the San Jose Sharks advanced to the Western Conference Finals for the fourth time in franchise history.

Their opponents of course are none other than the St. Louis Blues, who dominated the Dallas Stars 6-1 on Wednesday night in Dallas.

This will mark the fifth time in history that the Sharks and Blues will square off in the Stanley Cup Playoffs. The previous four meetings in the playoffs all took place during the first round. Back in 2000, the Sharks won in seven games, and they also won in five games in 2004, while St. Louis beat the Sharks in six games in 2001 and five games in 2012 (which up until the Chicago/St. Louis series, was the last playoff series the Blues had won).

During the 2016 season, the Sharks won two games out of three against the Blues. What is interesting to note is that the road team had won all three of the meetings. It’s interesting because the Blues possess home-ice advantage for the remainder of the playoffs (even if they advance to the Stanley Cup Final).

St. Louis will be looking to go to the Finals for the first time since 1970, while the Sharks will look to head to the Finals for the first time in franchise history,

The Western Conference Final opens at Scottrade Center on Sunday at 7 p.m.
