Saint Louis FC Falls to Louisville City FC 2-0

Louisville City FC defeated Saint Louis FC 2-0 Saturday night to claim not only an important three points, but the first leg of the King’s Cup as well.

The first half featured a heavy dose of Louisville City on the attack with Saint Louis playing in its own third much of the half.  STLFC did well to keep the score locked at zero as it went into the locker room at half time.

St. Louis turned the tables in the second half and found more success in the attacking third but was never able to find a goal.  The game changed in the 77th minute as Louisville midfielder George Davis IV scored his first goal of the year after he received a through ball behind the defense and chipped the ball over the shoulder of a charging Mark Pais.

Later, in the 89th minute, Pais was called for a foul inside the box which led to a penalty kick.  With an opportunity to ice the game, Louisville’s Cameron Lancaster converted the penalty and sealed the 2-0 result.

“Obviously we’re disappointed, but you can’t come into a place like Louisville and give the ball away like we did the last 15 minutes of the game.” said Head Coach Dale Schilly.  “You have to manage the situation where you can get out of here with a point and there’s no reason for us not to come out of here with a point tonight.”

Saint Louis FC returns to action at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday, May 18 when it hosts AFC Cleveland in the second round of the Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup.  For tickets, visit saintlouisfc.com or contact an Account Executive at 636.680.0997 or by emailing [email protected].
