Cardinals Sign 2016 First Round Pick Delvin Perez

The St. Louis Cardinals have signed shortstop Delvin Perez, their first overall draft pick from the 2016 Major League Baseball First-Year Player Draft.

Perez, 17, is a 6-foot-2, 180 pound, high school shortstop who was selected out of the International Baseball Academy in Ceiba, Puerto Rico, with the 23rd overall pick in the opening round.

The Cardinals have now signed 23 of their 42 draft picks including eight of 12 players selected in the Top 10 rounds and four non-drafted free agents.

The Cardinals have until July 15 at 4:00 p.m. CT, to sign players from the 2016 MLB First-Year Player Draft.
