Jake Allen Expected To Start Opener On Wednesday

by Press Release

St. Louis Blues goaltender Jake Allen, who was injured during a preseason game Saturday, is expected to start the season-opener at the Chicago Blackhawks on Wednesday (8 p.m. ET; NBCSN).

Coach Ken Hitchcock said Allen would skate Tuesday with the training staff.

“If everything goes well he’ll play Wednesday,” he told the Blues website.

Allen was injured with 2:18 remaining in the first period of a preseason game against the Blackhawks when teammate Carl Gunnarsson fell and landed on his ankle. Allen finished the period but did not play in the final two periods.

Last season Allen was 26-15-3 with a 2.35 goals-against average, .920 save percentage and six shutouts in 47 games. He is expected to get the bulk of the starts this season following the trade of Brian Elliott to the Calgary Flames on June 24.
