Ambush Defender Mattingly Named to MASL Team of Week

St. Louis Ambush defender Chris Mattingly has been named to the Major Arena Soccer League’s Team of the Week for Week Five of the 2016-17 regular season.

Mattingly contributed two assists to help the offense and made six blocks on defense on Sunday, November 27 against Chicago. The Ambush defender also now leads the league in blocks.

Chris Mattingly is a St. Louis native who attended Chaminade High School. He built a solid soccer foundation in his youth at St. Louis Scott Gallagher Soccer Club, where he won several state and regional titles as well as a National Championship in 2000.

Mattingly’s collegiate career was spent at Drury University (NCAA Division 1) where he was team captain and earned the 2003-04 Defensive Player of the Year honor and the John E. Moore Award for his team leadership and dedication.

Before joining the Ambush, Chris played one season with the St. Louis Illusion (2009-10, PASL) and three seasons with Illinois Piasa (2010-13). In his first season with the Ambush (2013-14), Chris was third on the team in blocks (26). Mattingly emerged as one of the top defenders in the league during the 2014-15 season, ranking second in the league and first on the team in blocks with 41. Last season (2015-16), Chris was first on the team and tied for first in the MASL with 43 blocks.

When not playing soccer, Chris keeps busy as a Medical Sales Rep and husband and dad. He and his wife Stacy reside in St. Louis with their three children, Bella, Cruz and Luca.

The Ambush (0-4) return to action this weekend, when they make their first trip of the season to Milwaukee when they face the Wave on Saturday, December 3 at 7:05 p.m. at the UW-Milwaukee Panther Arena. The Ambush return home when they welcome the expansion Florida Tropics for the first time ever Friday, December 9 at 7:35 p.m. at the Family Arena.
