Cardinals Top Astros in Comeback Victory

ST. LOUIS – Michael Wacha pitched five strong innings for the Cardinals, who scored 4 runs in the sixth inning of Monday’s game against the Astros to capture a 6-3 come-from-behind win at Roger Dean Stadium in Jupiter, FL.

Wacha’s fourth Grapefruit League start was also his longest to date, as the right hander threw for 5 innings of two run ball against Houston. He also sat down 4 Astros via the punch out in his 59 pitch-performance.

Wacha’s teammate, Jedd Gyorko, showed some power on Monday afternoon, launching his first long ball of spring training in the bottom of the second inning to score Stephen Piscotty and stake the Cardinals to an early 2 run advantage.

A Colin Moran 2-RBI double and a J.D. Davis RBI single provided the Astros with 3 unanswered runs and a lead before a 4-run Cardinal response.

Jhonny Peralta, Stephen Piscotty, and Jose Martinez, who is having arguably the hottest offensive spring of any other Cardinal, contributed RBI knocks to provide St. Louis their third, fourth, fifth, and sixth runs of the game.

Worth Noting:

Jonathan Broxton allowed 3 hits and 1 run in relief of Michael Wacha on Monday. Mitch Harris, Austin Gomber, and Miguel Socolovich shut down Astros hitters over the final three frames, tossing a combined 2-hit, 3-strikeout performance to finish off the club’s 11th win of the spring.

Up Next:

The Cardinals will take Tuesday off before traveling to Fort Myers, FL on Wednesday to battle the Minnesota Twins at CenturyLink Sports Complex (12:05 pm CT). Mike Leake will start on the bump for St. Louis.
