Grichuk Homers, Redbirds Fall at Omaha

OMAHA, Nebraska – Randal Grichuk homered, and Patrick Wisdom and Alex Mejia each had three hits, but the Memphis Redbirds lost the series opener to the Omaha Storm Chasers (Royals), 11-3, Thursday night in Omaha, Neb.

Grichuk’s home run was his fourth in four games for the Redbirds (44-28), and he has now hit safely in six-straight games. Wisdom was on base four times and scored a run, and Mejia drove in two runs. Rangel Ravelo was 2-for-5 with a double.

Starting pitcher John Gant gave up six runs, four earned, on nine hits in 3.1 innings. Three relievers followed to finish the game.

The Redbirds left nine runners on base in the game.

The Redbirds and Storm Chasers continue their series tomorrow night at 7:05. Memphis next returns home to AutoZone Park for eight games starting Monday.
