Molesky, Grizzlies Offense Dominate Joliet

by

JOLIET, Ill. — The Gateway Grizzlies (18-40) jumped out to an early 3-0 lead in the first inning and never looked back in a 15-1 rout of the Joliet Slammers (26-29) on Thursday night.

Gateway scored in six of the nine innings, but only needed Terry McClure’s two-run single in the first inning. Vince Molesky made sure of that.

Molesky hurled eight innings of one-run ball, allowing only four hits while striking out six. Since coming off an injury that kept him out for the final two weeks of June, Molesky has made four starts in July. In total, he’s accumulated a 0.98 ERA across 27 2/3 innings. He’s struck out 21 batters and allowed only 24 baserunners.

But the Grizzlies’ offense gave Molesky plenty of extra runs anyway. McClure drove in three runs in a 2-4 performance. He also walked twice, stole a base and scored a run.

Matt Hearn added two hits and two runs scored, extending his hitting streak to 19 games.

Ramon Osuna went 2-6 with two RBIs and two runs. Cody Livesay drove in three runs of his own. Chase Simmons had two hits, two runs and an RBI. Dan Holst drove in two and scored two. Evan Rogers tacked on a pair of hits and a couple runs.

Every Grizzlie in the starting lineup reached base and either scored a run or batted one in.

Gateway will try to take its offensive performance to Schaumburg this weekend to play the East Division-leading Boomers. First pitch of the series opener is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. Friday. All of the action can be heard on the Grizzlies Media Network.
