Redbirds Short in Series Opener against Omaha

MEMPHIS, Tennessee – The Omaha Storm Chasers (Royals) put up a five-spot in the sixth inning en route to an 8-4 win over the Memphis Redbirds in the series opener Monday night at AutoZone Park.

Despite the loss, the first-place Redbirds remain 74-40 on the season and have won 28 of their last 37 games.

Patrick Wisdom hit his 24th home run of the season, which leads the St. Louis Cardinals organization, and Harrison Bader hit his 20th, which is a new career high. Wilfredo Tovar was on base three times with a double and two walks, and Alex Mejia had two hits and drove in a run. Breyvic Valera extended his hitting streak to eight games with a 1-for-5 showing.

Luke Weaver was touched for seven runs on 12 hits in 5.2 innings, before Josh Zeid and Miguel Socolovich finished the game allowing one run in 3.1 innings.

The Redbirds stole four bases in the game, matching a season high set July 27 against Salt Lake.

The Redbirds and Storm Chasers play a doubleheader tomorrow starting at 5:35 p.m. The clubs finish their five-game, four-day series Thursday.
