St. Louis Ambush Sign Defender Alex Tozer

by St. Louis Ambush

The St. Louis Ambush have signed defender Alex Tozer for the 2017-18 season. Per league and team policies, terms of the contract were not disclosed.

Two seasons ago, Tozer delivered an impressive rookie season (2015-16) as a member of the Cedar Rapids Rampage. That season was good enough to earn him an “honorable mention” on the MASL’s All-Rookie Team. Just when it appeared his arena soccer career was ready to take off, Alex was forced to sit out the 2016-17 season due to injury.

Tozer’s style on the turf is one that exemplifies hustle. In a 2015 article in Cedar Rapids newspaper The Gazette, sportswriter Douglas Miles said, “It’s not difficult to pick Alex Tozer out on a soccer field” thanks to “a style that is equal parts vocal, energetic and physical.”

Alex hails from Milwaukee, Wisconsin. He played high school soccer at Dominican High School in Whitefish Bay, Wisconsin. After high school, he joined the Milwaukee Wave reserve squad, earning a promotion to the pro team in the second half of the 2014-15 season where he appeared in two games. Alex joined the Cedar Rapids Rampage for the 2015-16 campaign, tallying two goals and 19 blocked shots while appearing in 19 of the team’s 20 games. He is also a member of the US National Futsal Team.

Alex’s father is former Milwaukee Wave head coach and former MISL player Keith Tozer. Alex said he is looking forward to coming back stronger than ever from his injury and that while he is proud to continue his family’s soccer legacy, he is looking forward to making a name for himself as a member of the Ambush.

The Ambush open their 2017-18 schedule on the road when they face the Kansas City Comets on November 4. The Ambush kick off the home portion of the new season when they host the Milwaukee Wave on Saturday, November 11, 2017 at 7:05 p.m. CT at the Family Arena. The 2017-18 season will be the fifth for the franchise, who has called the Family Arena home since 2013. November 11 is also Veterans Day, and the Ambush will recognize our Veterans during the game. Leading up to the home opener, the Ambush invite fans to the Fan Fest, which will include a free exhibition game, on Saturday, October 21 at the Family Arena.
