According to Baltimore writer Dan Clark, there are offers on the table for Manny Machado, including one from the Cardinals.

Several offers are on the table for Manny Machado – Cardinals, White Sox, Yankees, Phillies and Giants. #Orioles

Dan Clark also went on to say if he had to guess, it would be the Phillies… blah.

RJ Anderson just ranked all 30 team’s chances of having Manny Machado play for them in 2018, with the Cardinals at #1.

Machado has expressed his desire to move back to his native position of shortstop. The Cardinals could easily make that happen and move Paul DeJong to 3B where he primarily played in the organization in from 2015-2016 before moving to SS full-time in 2017.

Manny Machado is only 25 years old and in the final year of team control, his 3rd year of arbitration. He made $11.5m in 2017. The Cardinals have a long history of avoiding arbitration with their players, often signing them to extensions through their arbitration years plus a year or two. Marcell Ozuna is also in an arbitration year.

All we know as of now is that the Orioles are looking for “major league ready pitching”.

Orioles would like ML ready pitching if they did deal Machado. Duq: “That would be our first choice. Whether we can do that or not, that’s another story.

A lot of fans are worried that too much might be given up in a trade for him. Even after the Ozuna trade, the Cardinals still have a number of pitching prospects they could deal in a trade… and they might still be looking at acquiring another starting pitcher in another move.

There aren’t many players like a Stanton or a Machado out there, and the Cardinals haven’t had a home-grown version since Pujols. If you have the chance to acquire such talent, even for a single year, I think you have to do it. They have been said in the past to like their chances at going after him in free agency next offseason. Trading for him now, would give them some exclusive time to negotiate a long-term deal and hope to not have to outbid anybody… or also give them a chance for him to give them a shot at beating his best offer since he played for them. A single year of Machado is better than 0 years of Machado.

Mark McGwire, Scott Rolen, Jim Edmonds, and Matt Holliday were rentals that worked out in the past and stayed. Jason Heyward did not, thankfully.

Manny Machado would be another ‘MM’ to go with Mike Matheny, Mike Maddux, Miles Mikolas, and Mike Mayers,
