Stephen Piscotty Traded To Oakland For Two Minor Leaguers

According to Jon Heyman, The St. Louis Cardinals have reached an agreement to send Stephen Piscotty to Oakland in exchange for minor league prospects, Yairo Munoz and Max Schrock.

Sources: A’s are in agreement on a trade to acquire Stephen Piscotty. Two minors leaguers go to cards in deal.

This isn’t the first time that Oakland has been linked to the Cardinal right fielder. In August of this year, the Cardinals made an offer to send Piscotty to Oakland in exchange for Sonny Gray. After Gray was dealt to the Yankees, these rumors fizzled out and Piscotty remained in St. Louis.  Piscotty is from the Bay Area and his mother Gretchen was recently diagnosed with ALS which caused him to miss a few games. It was a down year for Piscotty who hit just .236 with 9 home runs on the season. He dealt with some injuries, but never managed to turn the year around.

Earlier today the Cards reached an agreement with the Marlins to acquire Marcell Ozuna. This deal certainly would put a damper on Stephen’s playing time in St. Louis seeing as though he would most likely be a 4th/5th outfielder behind Ozuna, Tommy Pham, and Dexter Fowler.

I’m happy to see Stephen heading back home. He deserves the opportunity to be close to family in this time and the Cardinals are a stand up organization for getting him there.  I wish him the best for him and his family.

Good luck to you Stephen.
