• Jackie Kemph scored a team-high 17 points to become Saint Louis’ all-time leading scorer, and head coach Lisa Stone collected her 600th career victory as the Billikens rolled over St. Bonaventure 78-55 Sunday afternoon at Chaifetz Arena in the Atlantic 10 Conference opener for both teams.
• SLU evened its overall record at 7-7 with its third consecutive victory. St. Bonaventure fell to 5-9.
• Kemph’s driving layup with 1:52 remaining in the fourth quarter gave her 1,586 points, one more than previous record-holder Sadie Stipanovich. She also became only the sixth player in NCAA Division I women’s basketball history to hold her team’s career marks for points and assists. Kemph had a game-high eight assists on the afternoon.
• Now in her 32nd season on the sideline (sixth at Saint Louis), Stone became the 34th coach in NCAA women’s basketball history (all divisions, includes active and retired coaches) to reach 600 wins.
• Paige Rakers scored a career-high 15 points, including three 3-pointers.
FIRST QUARTER
• St. Bonaventure scored on its first three possessions to take a 7-0 lead.
• The Bonnies, who shot 56 percent (9-of-16) in the opening frame, led by as many as eight points and were on top 21-15 at the end of the quarter.
SECOND QUARTER
• St. Bonaventure led 26-18 with just over seven minutes remaining when SLU caught fire.
• The Billikens outscored the Bonnies 14-2 the rest of the period to take a 32-28 edge to the locker room. Kemph tallied six points during the run, while Rakers and Tara Dusharm added four apiece.
THIRD QUARTER
• The Saint Louis lead was 36-33 after St. Bonaventure’s Rhianna Council drilled a 3-pointer at the 7:46 mark.
• Neither team scored for more than two minutes, but a basket by Rakers with 5:14 left ignited a 17-2 spurt that put the Billikens in firm command. SLU scored on seven of eight possessions during the run, including 3-pointers by Rakers on back-to-back possessions, and led 53-35 heading into the final stanza.
FOURTH QUARTER
• Another Rakers triple at the 6:47 mark pushed the Saint Louis lead above 20 points for good, 62-40.
• The 23-point margin of victory matched the Billikens’ largest lead of the game.
BILLIKEN NOTABLES
• In addition to recording her career scoring high, Paige Rakers (6-of-11 FG, 3-of-6 3-pointers) equaled her season best with five rebounds.
• Maddison Gits scored 13 points on 6-of-6 shooting. Gits is 40-of-54 (.741) over the last seven games. She also grabbed seven rebounds, including five offensive boards.
• Jenny Vliet collected a game-high and season-high-tying 12 rebounds (season-high five offensive). It was Vliet’s fourth double-digit rebound total of the season, and the eighth of her career.
