Ambush Visit Milwaukee Sunday

by St. Louis Ambush

The St. Louis Ambush are on the road this weekend, facing the Milwaukee Wave on the distinctive black turf at the UW-Milwaukee Panther Arena this Sunday, January 28 at 1:05 p.m. CT.

The Ambush (2-13) are looking to rebound from a pair of losses to Syracuse last weekend, while the Wave (13-3) are looking forward to the postseason. Last weekend, they became the first team in the Major Arena Soccer League to clinch a playoff spot.

The Wave’s offense is led by Ian Bennett and Max Ferdinand, arguably the most dangerous duo in the league. Bennett is tied for first in the league in points (49), is second in goals (39) and points per game average (3.06). Ferdinand leads the league in assists with 27. Milwaukee’s defense is equally adept. Defender Jonatan Santos leads the leage in blocked shots with 27, while the last line of defense, goalkeeper Josh Lemos also ranks among the best in the league. Lemos posted only the second shutout of the season in the MASL against Syracuse on Saturday and he ranks fifth in the MASL in goals against average (5.63) and first in wins with 13.

The Ambush offense is anchored by player/coach Hewerton Moreira, who leads the team in points (24), points per game average (1.60) and assists (17). The scoring leader for St. Louis is Clayton “Pedaleira” Matheus with 10 goals. Another key contributor to the team is hard-playing veteran Pablo Da Silva (9 goals, 13 assists). In goal for the Ambush, Paulo Nascimento ranks tenth in the league in goals against average (6.70) and is seventh in save percentage (.673).

After Sunday’s contest, the Ambush return home to the Family Arena on Saturday, February 3, when they host the Kansas City Comets at 7:05 p.m. CT.
