St. Patty’s Day Derby Mayhem Set For Arch Rival & GateKeepers

by Brian Ledford

After competing in front of a record-setting 1,200 fans at Queeny Park last month, a St. Patrick’s Day donnybrook is slotted for Arch Rival Roller Derby (ARCH) and GateKeepers Roller Derby (GKRD) this Saturday at Midwest Sport Hockey (570 Weidman Road, Ballwin, MO).

In the 6:30 p.m. ARCH opener, the Stunt Devils (2-1) clash with the M-80s (0-2) while in the GKRD nightcap, the Creve Coroners (1-1) tangle with the Raiders of Forest Park (0-3).

The lingering narrative of the evening finds the teams sitting in last place in the respective leagues’ standings needing a victory to stay alive in the late-April trophy complexion.

Much intrigue will be focused on the winless M-80s, who haven’t fielded a complete line-up through two games, and the potential firepower they now possess. For the first time this season, the fire-cracking loggers sport a full roster.

Jammers Shoulder, CO, Reptar and Twig E. Smalls will pace the jammer rotation while BEECH, PLEASE compliments. Blocking will be paced by Lumberjam, Snoop Dogwood, Fiona Crabapple, Ginger, Jenny Loggins, Sumack Down, Megabirch, Chop It Like It’s Hot, Maul Bunyan, Sequoia Destro-ya and Fight Shrub.

Additional impact will come from newly-slotted transfers, blocker LuxFurious from the Atlanta Rollergirls and Jedi Knight-N-Gale from the St. Chux Derby Chix.

Meanwhile, the Stunt Devils picked up an impressive 216-191 victory over the ARCH defending champion Smashinistas last month. In the topsy-turvy battle, the dare devils’ duke resulted in a two-way tie in the standings as the teams now sport identical 2-1 records.

In the win, jammer Psychokid D’Freakout notched 122 points while Bricktator added 63. Aggie Wartooth and Ultraviolet also added imperative points in the victory. Blockers Fletch-A-Sketch, Shear-Ra Powers, Lethal Dose, Wonder Thighs, Splatter, Hardcore Parkour, Nox, Pegasass, Bruise Almighty and Joan of Spark are primed to provide the power up-front.

With victory Saturday, the Stunts clinch an April trophy berth and send an early salvo that they plan on picking up their first ARCH trophy since 2016.

For the GKRD kerfuffle, the Raiders of Forest Park need a win to stay afloat in the Turf Wars’ trophy mix. Jammers D. Mouthful, ScreechAround and Mud will look to score points while Spin Diesel, Nate Bower, Dr. Dredd, Slammin’ T. Killa, Carly Slay Jepsen, Cunningham, Arty Panimal, and Woolsy Mammoth build the walls.

On the other side of the ledger, the Creve Coroners already have a victory over the Raiders that was claimed in January. Jammers Magnum P.I.M.P., Jammy Pacquiao, Shred Astaire and Beddes roll alongside blockers by Nix, Boney Fangers, Double Excel, Hulk, Otter Nonsense, baby legs and Wrecks Appeal this weekend.
