Fortnite Mobile!…..Is Crashing and Burning

by Nick Stucker

It’s a game that has taken over people’s lives for both the Xbox and Playstation; a popular free-to-play game that uses nearly similar mechanics like Player Unknown’s Battlegrounds, Fortnite pits literally 100 players against one another in a free-for-all fight on a massive island. Players start by skydiving through the air and choosing where they wish to land. Then, if they want to survive as long as possible, and be the #1 winner of the match, they need to scavenge every inch of the area for better gear and weaponry. But there’s a catch: every few minutes the game map shrinks to a smaller size by a “storm”; you must stay within the storm walls to stay alive. If you’re outside the storm walls your health goes down until you die. So pick the spot you choose to land carefully.

Eventually the storm wall gets so small that any remaining players left alive are forced to engage one another until there is one winner left. So for you Call of Duty players, you can’t just camp or hide to win. You actually got to play a little and show some skill. However for this game, there isn’t much skill you need since you can build whatever you want in order to defend yourself in case you come under attack, or, like the title of the game implies, you can build a fort for a better defense. But it’s redundant since eventually you’ll have to abandon it due to the the storm shrinking the map size. Or get lucky. One of the two will happen.

Well, the game, still in its preview phase, has gotten so popular that it’s moving to iOS devices (sorry Android users, we still got a bit to wait). However it is an invite only for right now (basically in its private Alpha Phase testing).  But, for those that are currently playing the mobile version, the game keeps crashing.  Well here’s the rub: for those that have older iOS devices or tablets, the game will not work for them. Apple, in all of their infinite wisdom, keeps updating and upgrading their devices with more powerful processors in their phones. It’s because of this, those that have older Apple phones, or tablets, can’t do much like they use to a few years back (this has actually caused lawsuits against Apple currently). This includes joining in on the “greatness” that is Fortnite on your mobile device.

But we have you covered! We’ve listed below the current devices that can use and run Fortnite, for both iOS and for Android once it is released. The following devices are currently able to run Fortnite Mobile:

iOS Devices:

  • iPad 2017
  • iPad Pro
  • iPad Mini 4
  • iPad Air 2
  • iPhone X
  • iPhone SE
  • iPhone 6S (6S Plus)
  • iPhone 7 (7 Plus)
  • iPhone 8 (8 Plus)

Android Devices:

  • LG G6
  • LG V30 (V30 Plus)
  • Huawei P8 Lite 2017
  • Huawei P9 (P9 Lite)
  • Huawei P10 (P10 Plus) (P10 Lite)
  • Huawei Mate 9 (Pro)
  • Huawei Mate 10 (Pro) (Lite)
  • Google Pixel 2 (XL)

We hope this helps you Fortniters on your quest for fame and glory and bragging rights for being #1 out of 99 other players (if they made it a little more like Battlefield in terms of fighting and shooting mechanics, then that might actually be impressive).

Fortnite Mobile is available now, invite only though. Android users will have access in the coming months.
