Dax Shepard Picked Up for the Netflix Series The Ranch

by Nick Stucker

2017 saw a massive shakeup for many television series and films in terms of their actors/actresses being accused of sexual harassment claims. The Netflix Original Series The Ranch was no exception. Danny Masterson (That 70’s Show), plays Kutcher’s older brother Rooster on show, was fired by Netflix late last year due to sexual harassment claims against him. Not wanting any type of fallout or to have their reputation tarnished, Netflix chose the lesser of evils and let Masterson midway through the shooting of season 3 (same thing happened with Kevin Spacey’s House of Cards on Netflix).

Dax Shepard, a longtime comedian and friend of Ashton Kutcher, has temporarily joined the Netflix series for a reported 5 of the ten episodes for the last half of season 3. Masterson, who had filmed for the first half of the season 3, will still be seen for the episodes he shot in for the first half of the season. Hopefully sometime this year.

From reports, Shepard’s character is a military man named Luke Stevens; he has a connection to The Iron River Ranch and the Bennett family, however it is not reported how or what this connection is.

The Ranch also stars Sam Elliot as Beau Bennett, the owner and patriarch of the Bennett family and Debra Winger as Maggie Bennett, the mother of Rooster and Colt (Kutcher) and owner of the only bar in Garrison (the city the series takes place in).

The first 4 parts (Season 1 and 2) are now on Netflix. The first half of Season 3 is slated for release later this year.
