Offensive Surge Leads Billikens To Sweep

by SLU Baseball

SAINT LOUIS – [BOX SCORESaint Louis University Baseball finished what it started with a pair of lopsided decisions over the weekend. The Billikens posted six runs in the first four innings as they rolled to a 6-2 win to secure the series sweep over UMass on Sunday.

Saint Louis (21-9, 8-1 A-10) posted a pair of runs in the first inning to kick-start the offense. Parker Sniatynski singled up the middle with two outs on the board, which led to the first run for the Billikens. Jake Garella followed with an RBI single to make it 1-0.

With a runner at first, Carter Hanford batted the second run in. The third baseman laced a 1-1 pitch down the right field line, which scored Garella from first, and made it a 2-0 game.

The Billikens plated three more in the third as Aaron Case led off with a walk. Alex King singled through the hole at short, but an error helped the lead run cross the plate to put the first run home in the frame. This was the run that proved to be the difference. Cole Dubet provided a two-RBI single to left which opened the game for Saint Louis.

Ryan Hernandez singled and scored in the fourth as the Billikens rolled to their 21st win of the season.

Drew Reveno got the start for Saint Louis on Sunday and tied Jackson Wark for the lead in wins in the Atlantic 10 with six. Reveno improved to 6-1 on the year after tossing six strong innings. The junior allowed just two hits and recorded four strikeouts in his 67 pitch outing.

UMass posted its runs in the seventh as Luke Sommerfeld pitched both into, and out of, a jam. The senior allowed two hits and recorded a wild pitch in the inning, but got Ryan Lever to fly out to right, which stranded runners at second and third to end the inning.

Both Case and Hanford recorded a two-hit day for the Billikens while Alex King extended his hitting streak to six games with his single in the third inning.

The Billikens will end their home stand on Wednesday when they welcome the Bradley Braves to the Billiken Sports Center. First pitch is scheduled for 6:00 p.m.
