Gomber Shines, Redbirds Win Fourth-Straight

by

MEMPHIS, Tennessee – Behind 8.0 strong innings from Austin Gomber, the Memphis Redbirds (27-18) picked up their fourth-straight win with a 2-1 victory over the Oklahoma City Dodgers (Dodgers) Monday night at AutoZone Park.

Gomber worked into the ninth inning before departing, and he struck out nine. Two of the six hits he surrendered came in the first inning and two came in the ninth. From the end of the third through the middle of the sixth, he retired nine-straight Dodgers with five coming via strikeout.

Patrick Wisdom homered in the first inning for the Redbirds, which was his sixth of the year. He has driven in nine runs in his last five games with three doubles, a triple, and two home runs. Max Schrock drove in the other run for Memphis in the fourth, when he looped a liner into right field that scored Wisdom after a leadoff walk.

All six Redbirds hits in the game came from a different player.

Trying for Memphis’ first complete-game shutout in two years, Gomber took the mound in the top of the ninth but was lifted after allowing a leadoff double and then a single. Preston Guilmet came on and got a flyout that scored a run to make it 2-1. After a single to put the tying run on third, Guilmet got a strikeout and groundout to end the game and pick up his eighth save of the season.

Wisdom is hitting .520 (13-25) on his season-long seven game hitting streak.

Memphis and Oklahoma City are right back at it at 11:05 Tuesday morning. The Redbirds’ nine-game homestand continues through Tuesday the 29th. For more information on single-game tickets and ticket mini-memberships, visitwww.memphisredbirds.com.
