Chiefs Fall to River Bandits 9-0

Peoria, IL– The Peoria Chiefs were shutout by the Quad Cities River Bandits 9-0 on Sunday afternoon in game three of the four game series. The Chiefs are now 35-28 overall with the series finale scheduled for Monday at noon.

The River Bandits used the longball in the top of the first to jump out to an early lead on Chiefs starter Evan Guillory. With one out, Colton Shaver hit a solo home run over the left field wall for a 1-0 lead.

Quad Cities tacked on another run in the top of the fourth inning after a two-out rally. Cody Bohanek singled and Alfredo Angarita drove him on a triple to center as the advantage increased to 2-0.

The deficit widened in the top of the fifth inning after a leadoff walk from Shaver. Corey Julks singled to put two runners on and Bryan De La Cruz brought around Shaver on a double. Adrian Tovalin singled home Julks to knock Guillory out of the game with a 4-0 lead. Fabian Blanco entered out of the bullpen and hit Jonathan Lacroix with a pitch to load the bases. Angarita delivered a two-out double to score De La Cruz and Tovalin but Lacroix was thrown out at the plate to end the inning with the River Bandits up 6-0.

Another Quad Cities triple added two more runs in the top of the sixth. Miguelangel Sierra drew a leadoff walk and Julks doubled with one out to put two runners in scoring position. Tovalin cleared the bases with a two-out triple for an 8-0 lead.

A leadoff homer increased the margin for the River Bandits in the top of the ninth against reliever CJ Saylor. Cody Bohanek cranked a solo home run to left for his second homer of the series as Quad Cities controlled the game 9-0.

Guillory (6-4) took the loss throwing four innings and facing the first four batters of the fifth. He allowed six runs on eight hits with four walks and five strikeouts. Blanco pitched two innings allowing two runs on three hits with one walk and three strikeouts while hitting one batter. Andrew Summerville threw 1 2/3 scoreless innings allowing one hit on with three walks and two strikeouts. Saylor allowed one run on the homer in 1 1/3 innings with no walks and two strikeouts.
