Redbirds Go Crazy In Late Innings To Top Sky Sox

by

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colorado – The Memphis Redbirds topped the Colorado Springs Sky Sox (Brewers) 11-4 in a game that saw four lead changes, Tuesday night in Colorado Springs, Colo.

Daniel Poncedeleon started for the ‘Birds, earning the win. The righty was solid through five innings, allowing just one run, before being touched for three runs in the sixth inning. He finished the night with a final line of six innings pitched, allowing five hits and four earned runs, while striking out three batters. The four earned runs are the most he has given up all season.

After Colorado Springs jumped out to an early 1-0 lead, the ‘Birds scored two runs in the third inning on an Adolis Garcia triple to take the lead. In the fifth, Luke Voit launched his second homer of the season to extend the lead to 3-1.

Memphis wasted no time taking the lead back after Colorado Springs’ three-run sixth. With two outs and no one on in the frame, Voit doubled, and came around to score on Tyler O’Neill’s ground-rule double to tie the game. Patrick Wisdom then launched his 11th homer of the year to put the ‘Birds ahead for good. O’Neill extended the lead in the 9th inning with a three-run bomb, his 16th of the season, and pinch-hitter Randy Arozarena followed O’Neill with a two-run shot to round off the scoring.

Landon Beck, Sean Gilmartin, and Andrew Morales combined to throw the final three frames for the ‘Birds. They allowed just one hit and one walk over the final three innings, striking out two batters.

The Redbirds are on the road for nine games at Colorado Springs and Iowa, continuing tomorrow at 7:40 p.m. (CT), before returning to AutoZone Park on July 4 for the 4th of July Celebration, presented by AutoZone.
