Mercado Dynamite in 10-1 Redbirds Rout

MEMPHIS, Tennessee – Oscar Mercado was 5-for-5 with two runs scored, two RBI, and three stolen bases in a 10-1 Memphis Redbirds (63-37) triumph over the Colorado Springs Sky Sox (Brewers) Saturday night at AutoZone Park.

Mercado’s five-hit game was the 17th in Redbirds history, and his three steals marked the 11th time someone has swiped three bags in a game in franchise history. Nobody Redbird had ever done both in the same game before Mercado tonight.

Adolis Garcia was 4-for-5 with a double, three runs, and an RBI, and Wilfredo Tovar drove in three runs. Patrick Wisdom clubbed his 13th home run of the season in the eighth inning, a two-run shot that made the score 10-1.

Jake Woodford got his first-career Triple-A win, working 6.0 innings and giving up one run on three hits with seven strikeouts and three walks. Tommy LayneAndrew Morales, and Conner Greene threw 3.0 shutout innings to cap the victory.

Memphis had been shut out on 10 hits in its last two games before tonight’s 10-run, 13-hit explosion. The Redbirds also drew nine walks in the contest. Memphis trailed 1-0 before scoring three in the bottom of the second, another in the fourth, three more in the fifth, and two in the eighth.

Through 100 games last season, the Redbirds were 65-35 en route to their record-setting 91 regular-season wins.
