WWE Wrestlemania 31 Preview: Part Two

by

WWE Wrestlemania 31 is only five days away, and as the clock continues to wind down, the week long preview of pro wrestling’s “Grandest Stage” continues.

Yesterday, we previewed the pre-show four-way tag team title match, along with the Andre the Giant Memorial battle royal.

Today, we will preview another tag team match featuring WWE divas (non-title), and John Cena vs Rusev in a match with the United States Championship on the line (Rusev is the current United States Champion).

BRIE & NIKKI BELLA vs AJ LEE & PAIGE

First, the divas tag team match. It features Brie Bella & Nikki Bella facing off against AJ Lee and Paige. WWE in reality, has been under criticism for their apparent lack of attention on the divas division, with divas getting little television time, and when they do get matches on television shows, they would usually be short.

However, as of late, the divas’ matches have been quite entertaining, and on the March 23rd edition of Monday Night Raw, Paige took on Nikki Bella with the WWE Divas Championship on the line. However, after a series of events, Paige lost the match, and subsequently attacked AJ Lee, while The Bella Twins watched on pleasantly.

This Sunday at Wrestlemania, tensions will be high between these four ladies. And the biggest question remains: can AJ and Paige go exist in order to defeat their opponents?

Match Prediction:

Jeremy Karp: “It will most likely be the shortest match of the evening, but that should not take away from how entertaining it could be. The four divas participating are all talented (and Nikki Bella as a heel has been by far one of the highlights of it all), and have put on exciting matches over the past few weeks.

As for my prediction, I am going with The Bella Twins. And as an added bonus, after the match, don’t be surprised if a fight breaks out between AJ and Paige. Honestly, they could still end up fighting even if they win, with Paige being teased to turn heel in the near future.”

Scott Bachelor: “Some would rather see the Divas title on the line but I am actually pretty okay with a tag match featuring three of the most talented divas on the roster…and Brie Bella. This match could go either way but one way or another, I predict a turn coming. And the more I think about it the more I think Brie turns on her sister, Nikki, to set up a four way for the Divas championship somewhere down the line. Winner: AJ and Paige.”

JOHN CENA VS R– USEV

In WWE, one of the most intense wrestling feuds that has been taking place lately is the feud between WWE mainstay John Cena and the young-and-upcoming Rusev (accompanied by his manager Lana). Rusev, nicknamed the “Bulgarian Brute” (though billed from Russia), won the United States Championship during a match against Sheamus that took place on the WWE Network on November 3rd, 2014, and has held it ever since.

Not only is he a champion, but he still has never been pinned in WWE.

Then, there’s John Cena. It’s hard to find a WWE fan that doesn’t know who John Cena is. Since arriving on the scene in 2002, Cena is a 22-time champion, and three of those were for the U.S Title, so it’s safe to say competing for this specific title is nothing new to him.

It’s been a personal feud between these two. Aspects have ranged from Rusev & Lana cutting promos bashing the United States, to Cena knocking out Rusev two weeks ago (which resulted in him getting knocked out the following week), to brawl after brawl between them.

When these two face off at Wrestlemania 31, it will be more than just a lower-card title match: it will be a match between a man whose is one of the most polarizing figures in professional wrestling, whether booed or cheered, squaring off against one of the bright young stars that will be a big part of the future of World Wrestling Entertainment.

Match Prediction:

Jeremy Karp: “It’s been a long time since the U.S Title has been hyped up this much, and given as much attention and true credibility. It’s also been a long time since Cena last won the U.S Title, at Wrestlemania 21 back in 2005, as he would soon after begin to climb his way on to the main event scene, and permanently cement his name in history. Despite being the “hero”, the crowd, as most of the time, will be split and will both boo and cheer Cena throughout the match. It won’t be the first time that’s happened, though.

On a more underrated note about this match, Rusev will finally get his chance to shine on “The Grandest Stage of Them All” as he wrestles at Wrestlemania for the first time, and I believe he will put on one of the best performances of the entire show.

However, I don’t see that being enough to win, and, my prediction officially is John Cena defeating Rusev, and not only winning the U.S Title for the fourth time (and his first reign in a decade), but handing Rusev his first true loss in WWE.”

Scott Bachelor: “Allow me a humble-brag for a second. Last year, the day before WrestleMania 30, I had the absolute privilege to meet Chris Jericho. In a brief conversation I had, we both agreed that John Cena just had to put over Bray Wyatt, and then he didn’t. All signs pointed to Bray getting a huge win over Cena and really cement himself as a force to be reckoned with. This year I am learning from my mistakes.

While a win against Cena at WrestleMania would make Rusev a made guy in the WWE. Classic wrestling story telling is the USA hero takes down the evil foreigner who has been bad mouthing USA since his debut. Simply put, Cena pins Rusev for the first time and becomes the new United States Champion. Winner: John Cena.”
